Scenario

On an island of haves and have-nots, teenager John B enlists his three best friends to hunt for a legendary treasure tied to his father’s disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, and their “OBX” co-stars ask each other what the best lines are from their popular Netflix series. It was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina; it was originally supposed to be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina.

So what’s not to like?

After watching all 3 seasons of Outer Banks, I can’t deny that I had a blast and a good time: every episode is packed with high-paced adventures, treasure hunts, and villain chases, all in exotic locations and with some extra romantic entanglements between the attractive young cast. Well, I have some reservations, too. The events are extremely far-fetched and unrealistic: for example, how this group of teenage friends manages to escape time and again right under the noses of the police or heavily armed criminals, often amid a hail of bullets but always unscathed; or how they solve mind-blowing mysteries (like treasures hidden for centuries or the location of the legendary El Dorado) in the blink of an eye or thanks to unexpected strokes of luck.

And of course, silly nicknames, like JJ and Pope and John B (what does the B refer to anyway?)

Obviously, the young cast is supposed to illustrate the importance of true friendship, but their youthful behavior gradually gets on your nerves, what with all the bro-uncle behavior and the inevitable backwards baseball caps. They all look good, but the acting is barely adequate, only Drew Starkey really stands out as the troubled Rafe, and Rudy Pankow was quite convincing as the witty, ADHD-ridden JJ. In fact, it's more of a teen series, barely pushing the boundaries of The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew.

A new season of "Silo" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month

Maybe, as a reasonably adult person, I shouldn't watch this at all, but hey, sometimes it's nice to go with a nice easy flow without thinking too much. The last scene of season 3 set the stage for yet another season, I bet I won't be able to resist. Once again...
