Psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud invites professor C.S. Lewis to discuss the existence of God, Freud's unique relationship with his daughter, and Lewis; unconventional relationship with his best friend's mother.. Lewis in the film Shadowland (1993) 30 years before this film. Lewis is shown researching the Gospels while a woman who appears to be his wife calls him to bed.

Meanwhile, the two men attack each other's philosophical beliefs

The year is 1939, on the very eve of the declaration of war in London. Oxford Don CS Lewis (Matthew Goode) invites Sigmund Freud (Anthony Hopkins) to his invitation. He passes Anna Freud (Liv Lisa Fries) on her way out to a lecture and wonders if she should reveal her lesbian affair to her father. And that's what the film is, two men talking, occasionally interrupted by memories of their younger days and an air raid to give this stage play some cinematic credibility.

In this fictional scenario -- although the story is that Oxford visited Freud shortly before his death, the claim, as here, that it was Lewis is a fabrication of the play and the film -- they fight over each other, .. The rest... well, Freud's beliefs are at the end of his life (he died three weeks after the alleged events of this film), while there are many things Lewis said up to twenty years later. As for the basic disagreement over religion versus science, it is a non-conflict; as smarter people than me have stated, science is about the how, not the why.

Both are good actors and easily translate the script into words that sound natural.
