In this case, the consensus is correct, and it is: Seasons 1-6: Exceptional. Deep world building, clever dialogue, epic Hollywood-style scenes, expert acting, detailed plot, real surprises, a scary, sparingly used soundtrack. GoT is definitely worth watching these seasons, no doubt about it.

There are inexplicable ideas, inconsistent character development, and soap opera-like drama

Season 7: We suddenly notice that the quality of the writing and plot has deteriorated. But at least the entertainment value is still very high, so we'll pass. The biggest problem with the last season was that it took us out of the story and made us think about its many weaknesses. We lost the suspension of disbelief.
