Scenario

Maria Callas, the world's greatest opera singer, lives the final days of her life in 1970s Paris as she confronts her identity and her life. Angelina Jolie and director Pablo Larraín discuss how they became involved in the heartbreaking true story of world-famous opera singer Maria Callas. The third and final film in Pablo Larraín’s so-called “Lady with High Heels” trilogy of female-led biographies, following Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).

Well written and well directed

I'm in the mood for admiration.. Referenced in Close-up: Why Do We Need a Venice Film Festival? (2024).

The suggestions tell more than they show

The actors give exceptional performances, especially Angelina and Haluk Bilginer. Some scenes in Hey Siri don’t show, they suggest. Especially the flashbacks to the Nazi occupation… The music is great of course, mostly Pulcini.

This film is highly recommended

The dialogues are abrupt and unexpected. The dialogue between Callas and Kennedy is great and tells a lot, as is the dialogue between Callas, Onasis and Callas fans. These two dialogues show that those powerful men, who were considered great at the time and great to this day, were in reality simple to primitive people.
